In John chapter 17 Christ prays for his disciples and the future church that “they would be one as He and the Father are one.” The Apostle Paul often prayed that the church would be “humble and like-minded.” Unity is an important mark of a healthy church, both locally and globally.

Pastor Anthony Carter of East Point Church in East Point, GA, helps us think about this issue.  He has an article in the upcoming December 2009 edition Table Talk Magazine entitled: “Out of Many, One.”

Over the last month, many stations across the Moody Network have been involved in a fund-raising campaign with Wycliffe Bible Translators.  The Last Languages Campaign seeks to introduce the Word of God into the remaining 2400 languages of the world.

Once a translation has been completed there are many ministry partners who come along side Wycliffe to see these translations get into the hearts and minds of a community.  One such ministry partner, Faith Comes By Hearing.  Morgan Jackson is the ministry’s Director.

Science Fiction is one of the most popular entertainment genres. From the 1930’s classic “War of the Worlds” to ABC’s newest TV series “V” our popular culture seems obsessed with aliens and UFOs, even much of modern science seems focused on finding life on other planets.

In recent years there has been a fundamental shift in many ministries to equipping lay leaders to be more involved in the ministry and outreach of the church.

I recently attended a conference whose focus was to train pastors in the effective training of their members to do just that. One of the speakers was Rev. Phillip Jensen, Dean of Sydney and Senior Minister at the St. Andrews Cathedral in Sydney, Australia. He is also the Director of Ministry Training and Development for the Sydney Diocese.

All across the country many states have enacted some version of the Citizens Participation Act, a law intended to protect grass-roots advocates and common citizens from the threat of legal action by big business. A recent case in Illinois demonstrates the weaknesses of this poorly written law as it is being flipped on its head and used by big businesses to intimidate a prolife advocacy group.

There has been a lot of attention this year on the reformation, and while there were certainly many different factors which led to it, one of the most significant was a return to studying the scriptures in the original languages. In turn, this revival led to translating the Bible into the common languages across Europe.
