In the nation of Germany, homeschooling is illegal. In recent years, a growing number of German families are testing the resolve of the national stance on this issue, and sometimes at great cost to themselves.

This feature takes a look at one family who is seeking asylum in the US so they can educate their children at home without government interference.

This past January, officials in Germany removed 6 children from their Christian home and fined their parents for the crime of educating them at home.  This feature is an update on the Gorber family and what’s being done to challenge the country’s laws on education.  Guests include Esq. Last Friday, the California Court of Appeals ruled that state statues permitted home schooling as a category of private school education.  This reversed an earlier opinion that had mandated all homeschooling in the state of CA to be done only by licensed teachers.  This feature looks at the early history of the movement and how legal battles like the recent one in CA have shaped it.  Chris Kilcka from the Home School Legal Defense Association is the featured guest.
